Kohat is a district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, Kohat city is the capital of the district.
Kohat district is divided into two Tehsils: 1 Kohat 2 Lachi (Lachi is one of the largest village of Kohat. Situated on the southern border with Karak district). The population is 850,336 according to the 2017 census. The major languages in the district are Pashto, spoken by 75% of the population, and Hindko – spoken by 20%. The Hindko dialect of this district is Kohati and it is confined to the city of Kohat and a string of villages running east along the road to Kushalgarh on the Indus.There is also a group of native speakers of Urdu (0.8%) and Punjabi (4%). In the beginning there were main three tribes that are being considered as the main part of Kohat but with the change of time the numbers start increasing and other names come along these three i-e ( Khattak Bangash & Afridi,) but later on Shinwari, Orakzais tribe moved here and settled themselves here.
